Songwriters and composers, are you intrigued but a little unsure about what you will be signing up for at The Melbourne Sessions? Well, we’ve got a top 10 list for you!

The Melbourne Sessions is a full day of programming for emerging and mid-career songwriters and composers who want to dig a bit deeper artistically, further develop their skills, and make some new contacts along the way.

1. Your schedule will be packed. There is knowledge to gain. And, yes there will be tea breaks.
Here’s how the day will roll:
Arrive 9AM
Keynote In Conversation with Warryn Campbell – all attendees.
Tea break!
Masterclass, approx. 90 minutes.
Lunch. Eat and meet.
Workshops, approx. 3 hours with a TEA BREAK.
Performance and networking sessions approx. 2 hours – socialise and talk shop
6pm – finish.

2. Yes, this is the first ever Melbourne Sessions.
APRA AMCOS and Creative Victoria are launching the program together for the first time this year and we definitely want to keep doing it. Write, compose, create, connect is our mantra.

3. Collaboration is super, super important in the music biz.
We’ve run some numbers and it turns out most hit songs are the result of teamwork.
++ 2016 year-end Top 100 Singles – a Music Week study found it takes an average of 4.53 songwriters to create a global hit single.
++ 2016 year-end ARIA Top 50 Australian Artist Singles only six were composed by a sole writer (and Vance Joy claims two of those).
++ 2017 year end ARIA Top 50 Australian Artist Singles only five songs were composed by a sole writer (only 3 writers total: Amy Shark, Tash Sultana and Vance Joy with three of those)

4. International guest and masterclass speaker Shungudzo is a name we think you’re going to be hearing a lot of.
Get to know her work ahead, and you get to ask her all about it on 6 July.

5. Warryn Campbell has worked on these songs with Kanye West, Missy Elliott and Alicia Keys.
Clickbait of the best kind.

6. Meeting people is easy. No, not really.
It turns out not many managers, record labels, music publishers or film producers advertise songwriting/composing jobs on Seek. So, you gotta put yourself out there and find others to work with or who might help you along your career path. Come and meet these people on 6 July.

7. Masterclass (in a nutshell)
An interactive conversation between the leader, a facilitator and the attendees. Get advice and insight on techniques, process, inspiration and more.

8. Workshop (in a nutshell)
Small , genre-focused group where you get to discuss and work on song and composing craft with a total pro like Jae Laffer, Joelistics, Dallas Frasca and more. And yes, you are encouraged to bring your own instrument or equipment.

9. Get your tickets! Join APRA AMCOS.
The Melbourne Sessions is a ticketed event, with space for a couple hundred attendees . As of 7 June, we have sold 85% of the tickets! And if you aren’t an APRA AMCOS member – here is how you can join.

10. More to be revealed…sign-up for the newsletter.
We’ll be announcing another masterclass speaker as well as additional workshops. Hey, screen composers– we’re tailoring programs specifically for you.
